Patti Smith

My first encounter with Patti Smith was sometime in the early nineties.  I was raiding my Mom's records and found the Wave album. I can remember the album cover having an effect on me. The cover was of this interesting looking woman with two doves. I dismissed Patti Smith for years after listening to a few tracks on that album.

Thought of the Day: My review of Patti Smith's "Just Kids" is to follow tomorrow.

  1. Did Kelsey tell you Patti Smith was the commencement speaker at the Art Institute graduation? She also composed and performed a song specifically for the occasion.

  2. She did! What did you think of her speech?

  3. She didn't talk much, but she told students to hold onto who they were, and not to let anyone else tell them who they are. She made me want to check out William Blake, who spoke out against child labor and other social issues through his art. He died penniless and relatively unknown but was an activist and an artist til the end. And people still read his work hundreds of years later.
